I earned my CCIM pin in 2015, and it has had a direct impact on how I build my business and serve clients. It put me into a network of experienced professionals across the country and around the world, giving me access to peers, mentors, and resources I rely on daily. When I moved to a new market, having the CCIM pin gave me instant credibility and helped me get established far faster than starting from scratch. The designation sets me apart from other brokers by signaling advanced financial training, disciplined analysis, and a commitment to excellence in commercial real estate that clients recognize and value.

For me, pursuing the CCIM designation was less about collecting letters and more about committing to competency and growth. Completing the required coursework between 2020 and 2022 built a solid foundation at a point in my career where much around me was shifting. The classes and instructors helped me develop disciplined, confident decision-making specific to commercial real estate. From there, completing my portfolio and passing the final exam in Chicago in fall 2022 represented a real milestone. Not only did it mark a significant accomplishment, it also reinforced how competence is built through reps, humility, and continued learning alongside a broader network of professionals with shared values. Getting engaged with the local CCIM chapter, including serving on the board, provides regular reminders that this business is better when we learn and grow together.

Aligned Commercial Real Estate
As someone who had two other careers prior to becoming a Commercial Real Estate broker, the CCIM education was critical in expediting my learning curve and giving me the knowledge and confidence needed to best serve my clients. Membership in the Chapter continues that education in real time with current topics of interest as well as provides a network of CRE professionals and related business resources. You don't want to miss out!

Becoming a CCIM holds value beyond the designation added to your name. The network of peers that you become open to not only for deal opportunity but advise, counsel, and referrals come as well. The fundamental value of CCIM is to speak a common language in commercial real estate and use that common language with other CCIMs to facilitate a transaction by communicating the pertinent motivators for a client without compromising fiduciary duty. Collaborative environments, coupled with top notch education and training to succeed in the complex world of commercial real estate negotiations is what CCIM provides for its candidates and designees.

Getting the CCIM designation was the greatest investment in my professional career that I could have made. There is no greater opportunity in commercial real estate to get the most comprehensive education, access to dealflow, and be a part of a vast network of incredible professionals in the industry. I believe you should never stop learning and CCIM provides the applications to continue strengthening your business and honing your skills.

After receiving my Pin in 2018, I found myself in a 1031 exchange situation where my client wanted to purchase a property in Waverly, IA. Low and behold, one of the top properties identified was in the backyard of David Wilson, CCIM, 2018 President. He not only provided recommendations for legal counsel, and inspections, but did a site visit for me taking pictures and calling out some concerns. I was able to underwrite this multimillion dollar deal because of the skills I acquired with my CCIM education, but the deal closed because of those friendships and relationships that were nurtured through my CCIM network.

The CCIM Designation, or "The Pin", as it is called has helped my career in so many ways. First and foremost, the knowledge from the class work and the confidence that knowledge brought was priceless. This is even more true if you are young in your career. The second area for me was to get involved with other CCIM's in our local chapter and in business. I found I was "running with a faster crowd", and my idea of what is possible in my business and career got bigger.

The CCIM designation elevated my career as a real estate broker and advisor. As a former commercial real estate lender, I understood many facets of commercial real estate. But it wasn't until I decided to become a CCIM that I truly felt knowledgeable enough to give my clients sound advice regarding their real estate decisions. Whether it is investment analysis for an acquisition or disposition, or tenant representation services related to site selection, the curriculum offered by the CCIM Institute is comprehensive, current, and relevant to the industry, and is a testament to my dedication to this industry.

CCIM has been a great decision for me personally and professionally! The encouragement to achieve a designation began in 2005 when I was introduced to our local Oregon / Southwest Washington Chapter. At these monthly meetings I listened and learned negotiation and problem solving for the clients I would serve for years to come. Later, I made the decision to take my local chapter exposure to the next level by earning my designation.
I can confirm that the combination of education and camaraderie among designees, among other benefits, has served me well as a CCIM Designee. As a professional commercial real estate broker seeking high level success, I would recommend working towards your CCIM designation.

In my past life I developed commercial and industrial sites for over 35 years. Once I decided it was time to work with my mind instead of my body, I knew I would need to be educated to handle landlord, tenants and investors needs to the benefit of all. CCIM has given me the tools to do so with the key educational programs: Financial, Investment, User and typical Landlord analysis of a site. Networking and mind sharing are key to all CCIM's and we take it very seriously. All CCIM's are educated to succeed and that is what happens once you have the best education available to the commercial real estate industry.
